ISA RC50 Interim Conference 2020
Theme: THE POWER OF TOURISM: CONTESTED REPRESENTATIONS OF PEOPLE AND PLACES
Location & Dates: Chiang Mai, Thailand 1-5 April 2020
Submission deadline: Tuesday 1st October 2019
Abstract Submission
An abstract between 300 to 500 words (excluding references) should be submitted to be presented at one of the sessions below. The abstract should include, session number and name, an indication of the research aim, the (inter)disciplinary approach taken, the methods used and the key (expected) findings. The abstract should be submitted as a MS Word document to both Erdinç Çakmak [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> and Rami K. Isaac [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Deadline for abstract submission: Tuesday 1st October 2019
Notification of acceptance: Friday 1st November 2019
Early Bird Registration Deadline: Sunday 1st December 2019

5. “Gender and Work in Asia’s Tourism Economies” chaired by Sirijit Sunanta & Alexander Trupp
6. “Imagined sustainability? Going beyond the image” chaired by Can-Seng OOI, & LIU Jun
7. “The Power of New Urban Tourism: Representations and Contestations” chaired by Sybille Frank & Anna Laura Raschke
8. “Gentrification: Local (Urban) Image Development Instrument while Carrying Out Cultural/Creative Tourism” chaired by Virginija Jurėnienė
9. “Crossing (your own?) borders: Tourist movements in difficult spaces” chaired by Jack Shepherd & Daniel Laven
10. ”Glocalisation/globalisation strategies for in sustainable tourism in rural communities” chaired by Barbara Tomasella:
11. “Tourism in Asia: Multi-identities and Representations” chaired by Ploysri Porananond
12. “Walls and Borders” chaired by Anne Hertzog & Rami K. Isaac
13. “The Reframing of Narratives of Representation and Identities in the Branding of Coastal and Maritime Tourist Areas” chaired by Rico Lie & Loes Witteveen
14. “The Unfurling Imaginary of Soft Science Approaches in Tourism Studies” chaired by Keith Hollinshead & Rukeya Suleman
15. “Disaster risks and tourism resilience” chaired by Saranphat Wongput, Yuthasak Chatkaewnapanon, & Kannapa Pongponrat
There will also be also open sessions (for interesting papers submitted but not under one of the themes above).
