City, University of London wishes to recruit a data analyst with a background in epidemiology and statistics to work on an innovative project whose results will be of importance to the maternity services and the parents who use them. It aims to assess whether the outcome of pregnancy in England and Wales varies by time of day, day of the week and season of birth. This builds on our earlier work in collaboration with our research partners in England and Wales to use data linkage to enhance the scope of the data available for monitoring maternity care and for research by linking together data about over 7 million births in England and Wales. The project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council's Secondary Data Analysis Initiative and is based in City's multidisciplinary Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research
The successful candidate will work with the project co-investigators to design the analyses, analyse the linked datasets, draft articles for journals and present results more widely to professional and lay audiences. The post is based in City's School of Health Sciences in Islington, but the analytical work will be done in the secure environment of the Office for National Statistics' Secure Research Service. Our commitment to public and patient involvement in research means that engagement with representatives of users of maternity services is a key component, on which another member of the project team is leading. We aim to address parents' questions and concerns throughout the stages of analysis and reporting of results.
Applicants should be qualified to at least Masters level in epidemiology or statistics with experience of statistical data analysis including experience of handling large scale datasets in health-related research or social research, preferably but not essentially in the maternity or perinatal field. This project is funded until August 2021.
