Assistant/Associate Professor of Biostatistics

and

Assistant/Associate Professor of Epidemiology

Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

The Department of Biostatistics and the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health seek candidates to fill two tenure-track positions at the assistant or associate professor level. We envision recruiting one candidate to a position with a primary appointment in the Department of Biostatistics and the other to a position with a primary appointment in the Department of Epidemiology, but each with a secondary appointment in the other department. For both positions, we seek candidates with a strong background in theory and methods, demonstrated expertise in the development of new methods, and an interest in collaborative research in public health and biomedical sciences.

We are looking for candidates with expertise in areas such as causal inference, statistical genetics, measurement or measurement error, and data science (including computational science, machine learning and related methods). Candidates should be deeply committed to the development and application of quantitative methods and computation, with interest in the health sciences, and should be enthusiastic about teaching, training, and mentorship through our graduate programs.

Responsibilities will include methodological and collaborative research, teaching, and supervision of graduate students. Qualified applicants will be expected to have a doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines: epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, computational biology, or medicine; applicants from related fields are also welcome. Candidates are required to have their doctoral degree by the time the appointment begins, and academic rank will be determined in accordance with the successful candidate's experience and accomplishments.

We welcome candidates who are interested in mentoring diverse students and teaching in an international classroom setting that fosters belonging.

The Departments of Biostatistics<https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/biostatistics/> and Epidemiology<https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/epidemiology/> each offer an exceptional environment in which to pursue research and education in quantitative public health while being at the forefront of efforts to benefit the health of populations worldwide. The departments work closely together and many faculty members have joint appointments. Areas of expertise in Epidemiology include epidemiologic methods, epidemiology of chronic diseases, epidemiology of infectious diseases, and clinical epidemiology. Areas of expertise in Biostatistics include design and analysis of clinical trials and observational studies, missing data, precision health, network analysis, computational and systems biology, microbiome analysis, neurostatistics, and environmental statistics. Areas of shared expertise include statistical genetics and genomics, causal inference, and data science. Research in both departments is enabled by access to a number of large longitudinal studies and extensive collaboration with academic departments across Harvard programs and at the world-class Harvard affiliated hospitals.

Both departments pride themselves on having strong mentoring and a supportive environment for assistant and associate professors. Our unique and diverse community provides unparalleled collaborative opportunities for career development.
