Hi All,
We have Clinitek Status Plus analysers across 60 sites that we look after, used for urinalysis and urine HCG testing.
All of the false positive pregnancy tests that we have encountered have been due to a combination of user error, lack of maintenance on the analyser, pre-analytical errors and clinical reasons that Karen has just mentioned.
The most common reason for false positives on the Clinitek Status Plus is the users not cleaning the white calibration bar at the back of the test tray. The analyser uses optics to look at the calibration bar to determine the line on the HCG cassette. This should be checked regularly and can be washed under the tap and dried properly prior to reinserting the test tray.
Kind Regards,

Hi Debbie your question is both interesting and disturbing.
We are about to implement this across the Plymouth University Hospitals NHS trust and I will watch with interest!
Our problems have all been traced to poor training or human error. If you have genuine machine error I would very much like to know.
Kind Regards

Subject: False positive HCG results.
Good Friday afternoon mailbase colleagues.
Has anybody encountered any reported incidents of a false positive HCG result using a urine reader?
Specifically Clinitek Status?
Thank you in advance,
