Dear All- sorry to continue the discussion about Blood grouping but whilst we're on the subject
Can I ask- if you know whether your local blood group reports and rhesus status are going out electronically?
Our section will not send out electronically- and cite national guidelines and the lack of ability to see who has looked at the report and pull it back.
However logically we are not going to issue blood against any result that does not originate in our database and the question most users want to know is not the blood group but whether there is going to be a problem with getting blood. Antenatal are the only ones who are in a position to directly act on a rhesus result and the risk of harm due to acting on an electronically issued incorrect result seems less than the risk of acting on a manual mis-transcription.
I know this is not the ideal forum- but I'd be grateful for anyones experience
