Hi Soha,
A reaction from Belgium :-)
We are Alinity users since october 2018 and we experienced one flier for hs-TropI on 31 December 2018 : a result of 567 ng/L on the BD heparine tube.
The day after we received a new sample : hs-Trop I = 9 ng/L and we repeated then the test on the first sample : 17.2 ng/L (borderline pos) on the heparine tube and 8 ng/L (neg) on the serum tube.
Interesting in our case : the trop I on the sample with the flier was ordered more then 15 hours after sampling time, so the heparine tube was kept many hours in the refrigerated archive module before testing .
Trop I is also default performed on heparine tubes in our lab and we had the same reply from Abbott about sample integrity . And perhaps they have a point : in our experience heparin plasma becomes often cloudy when kept at 4°C.
That's why we took the decision to forbid late orders for all Alinity tests on heparin . Our LIS reroutes all late testorders (>4 hours after sampling time ) automatically to serum samples (if available of course).
Since then we had no fliers anymore.
Kind regards
Marit Peters
