Dear all,
Bloomsbury Digital Resources has just launched a new digital library, Bloomsbury Medieval Studies (https://www.bloomsburymedievalstudies.com), and I hope it might be useful and of interest to members of this group.
Bloomsbury Medieval Studies is an interdisciplinary resource designed for students and scholars of this rich field of study. It offers searchable access to over 150 eBooks from Bloomsbury and other leading publishers in the field, including I.B. Tauris, Amsterdam University Press and Arc Humanities Press. Titles include:
- Witch Beliefs And Witch Trials In The Middle Ages : Documents And Readings (P. G. Maxwell-Stuart)
- Magic As A Political Crime In Medieval And Early Modern England : A History Of Sorcery And Treason (Francis Young)
- Demons In The Middle Ages (Juanita Feros Ruys)
- King Arthur’s Enchantresses : Morgan And Her Sisters In Arthurian Tradition (Carolyne Larrington)
- Medieval Afterlives In Contemporary Culture (Gail Ashton)
- The Rise Of Alchemy In Fourteenth-Century England : Plantagenet Kings And The Search For The Philosopher’s Stone (Jonathan Hughes)
Visual primary material is available to view at high resolution, and comprises newly digitized incunabula from Senate House Library such as Malleus Maleficarum and The Vision of Piers Plowman, and 11 medieval maps from the British Library including Matthew Paris’ Holy Land maps. 1000 images of material culture objects such as weapons, jewelry and coins from the Metropolitan Museum of Art are also included, with contextual metadata to give substance to the period.
It is also the exclusive home to a brand new reference work commissioned by Arc Humanities Press, The Encyclopedia of the Global Middle Ages. Digital-first and global in its approach, it has been written by an international group of scholars and examples of the articles available at launch include:
- Thematic overviews of intellectual discourse, migration and trade systems
- Primary source analyses of Maya Civilization, Japan and Korean Kingdom of Silla
- Core Case Studies of queens and powerful women of the Middle Ages.
In addition, an interactive timeline situates image and text content from across the resource within its time and geographical region to deepen understanding.
30-day institutional trials are available on request via the Bloomsbury Medieval Studies site (https://www.bloomsburymedievalstudies.com) or you can email me directly at [log in to unmask] if you have any questions or would be interested in taking a closer look at the full site.
Best wishes,
