Dear Colleagues,

I write to let you know that the Penn State Anthropology Department is advertising for two Archaeologists for Fall 2020; see the position announcement below. Review of applications will begin on October 1st, 2019, and will continue until the positions are filled. The positions range from Assistant to full Professor, and we are seeking applicants who will complement existing strengths in demographic and ecological approaches to the study of past peoples. Members of the search committee are trying to spread the word about the positions so we cast as broad a net as possible. Should you have an opportunity to mention these openings to colleagues who might be interested, please do so. I greatly appreciate any help along those lines and would be pleased to answer any questions you might have about the position.

Sincerely,
Kristina

Professor of Anthropology (Tenure Track, Open Rank)

The Department of Anthropology at The Pennsylvania State University (https://anth.la.psu.edu/) invites applications for two tenure-track positions in archaeology starting Fall Semester 2020. Rank is open as we intend to fill early (Assistant Professor) to mid-career (Professor) positions.

We seek outstanding archaeologists whose interests and skills are consistent with the Anthropology Department’s integrative, scientific, and quantitative approach to studying the human condition, and its long tradition of sociopolitical, population, ecological, and evolutionary research. Methodological and geographical areas of expertise are open. Candidates’ areas of interest might include, but are not limited to, human responses to climatic and environmental change, population growth and distribution, health and diet, intensification of subsistence systems, and sociopolitical and economic systems, especially as they relate to inequality, migration, and settlement.

Candidates must be engaged in active fieldwork and laboratory research that complement existing departmental programmatic strengths. Successful candidates must demonstrate effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, an ability to obtain external funding, a strong publication record, and an innovative and integrative research program with a commitment to community engagement. We encourage collaborative research projects within the department and across the university through its various interdisciplinary programs (e.g., Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences [https://www.huck.psu.edu], Institutes of Energy and the Environment [www.iee.psu.edu], Human Dimensions of Natural Resources and the Environment [https://agsci.psu.edu/hdnre], Intercollege Graduate Degree Program in Ecology [https://www.huck.psu.edu/graduate-programs/ecology], Population Research Institute [http://www.pop.psu.edu], and the Graduate Program in Demography [http://www.pop.psu.edu/demography]).

Review of applications will begin 1 October 2019, and will continue until the positions are filled. Direct questions regarding this faculty position to Dr. George R. Milner ([log in to unmask]).

Applications should include: 1) a cover letter; 2) a curriculum vitae detailing your educational background, employment history, grants, and publications; 3) a statement covering research and teaching interests, as well as how they relate to a commitment to diversity and inclusion (maximum 2 pages); and 4) the names, addresses, and emails of three or more references. To apply, please upload materials as a single PDF file at https://psu.jobs/job/89754

To review the Annual Security Report which contains information about crime statistics and other safety and security matters and policies, please go to https://police.psu.edu/annual-security-reports, which will also explain how to request a paper copy of the Annual Security Report.
