Hello!

I've had lots of requests to bring together the answers about how to promote new books so here we go!

A lot of people have new book shelves or tables to put them on display to people coming into the library. Or they have notice boards either in the library or elsewhere in the hospitals they're based where they put up posters about new books.

Some people tweet images of their new books using their twitter pages. Or they put them onto their blogs/websites etc.

If anyone out there is using KnowledgeShare apparently there is a way of making it send out lists of new books to those who are signed up for current awareness. If you have any questions about that please contact Ben Skinner ([log in to unmask]).

Some people keep a track of new books and then send out some kind of document once monthly to their library patrons.

Lots of people seem to do newsletters or bulletins that include new books alongside other information. There are some very fancy ways to create these lists and then to send them out using things like MailChimp. Or they use already existing Trust bulletins to add their book information to.

Some librarians attend monthly meetings with different groups of staff so will take along leaflets with new book information relevant to those groups. Along the same lines some libraries run pop-up libraries regularly in places staff congregate to advertise new books along with new library services.

Some libraries have an SDI function on their library management systems which they use to advertise new stock to patrons automatically.

I think that's everything, I hope it's helpful to some one out there!

Thanks,

Sarah

Hello,

Just wondering what everyone out there does to let people know about their new book stock? I'm thinking of some kind of monthly or weekly current awareness but I have no idea how this would work in practice. This is probably a completely obvious question but cut me some slack, it is Friday!

Thanks,

Sarah
