The role  
  
We’re looking for a GIS Analyst/Developer to join our Digital team in our Cardiff office. From your first day, you’ll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards a professional qualification.  

You’ll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you’ll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we’ll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.    

The role will involve a variety of technical tasks on projects of various scales from local to global importance. Working with the existing Digital team and other Arup specialists, there will be a particular focus in our Highways and Rail businesses and therefore any relevant experience in these domains and with key clients would be advantageous.   

Tasks could include data management, database schema definition and management, data visualisations, user interface development, development of code/programs to automate workflows, understanding of spatial data structures (including 3D), development of web platforms, requirement gathering and process mapping, liaison with internal and external clients, exposure to emerging technologies (i.e. Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality) and their applicability to the Engineering domain and many other analytical and development related tasks.  

This role is a fixed term contract for 18 Months.

We’re looking for candidates with curiosity, personal drive and technical knowhow. If you can combine these skills with an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) the GIS and engineering sector and a desire to deliver excellent services for clients, we’d like to hear from you.  
  
We’re looking for the following qualifications, attributes and skills:  
  
Qualifications  
  
A first and/or Master’s degree in a relevant subject such as GIS/Spatial Analysis, Computer Science, Software Development and Information Technology or similar required. 
  
Skills  
  
Strong technical expertise in GIS and a sound understanding of data management, programming, software development and visualisation.   

Experience:  
The development and implementation of web GIS software utilising the following architecture, ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal and Server.   
Javascript libraries such as esri, three.JS, potree.  
The definition and creation of database schemas and relationships. With specific experience utilising esri ArcSDE and MS SQL Server.  Then the management of these through project delivery.  
Knowledge of SQL Server Report Services.   
Understanding of spatial data types and structures with extensive of 2D and 3D data and environments. With particularly knowledge of managing data for linear projects such as major rail/highways schemes. Familiarity with Network Rail data is advantageous.  
Authoring code for the automation of processes and workflows. Particularly with knowledge of Python libraries such as arcpy.  
Strong analytical capabilities, including use of ArcGIS Network, Spatial and 3D analyst. Experience of ArcGIS Pro would be desirable.  
Knowledge and proven experience of FME Desktop and Server, including integration with third party applications.  
Working with clients to identify their requirements, and planning/design solutions for delivery.  
Understanding user centred design processes.  
Documenting workflows, creating standardised process documentation and writing data processes for major projects. Knowledge of engineering standards and practises (such as BS 1192, IAN-184) would be desirable.  
Running training courses for a variety of technical skill levels.
