Dear all,
Weather Matters (www.weathermatters.net<http://www.weathermatters.net/>) is looking for contributions to our autumn series. We want to explore climate change scholarship in short creative pieces which do not follow the usual format of the academic journal article, and we warmly welcome creative writing and visual media contributions.
Over the past 18 months, climate change has increasingly dominated headline news. While it has been the subject of anthropological enquiry for well over a decade, this new media focus and as Timothy Morton calls it 'information dump' often lacks nuanced, emplaced understandings of weather and climate change.
We therefore invite contributions that offer insights into the lived experience of weather, climate change and climate discourses. These can be vignettes from fieldwork, short pieces of insight from the field, poetry, archive material, or thoughts-in-progress. We strongly encourage submissions of visual ethnography and visual practice, be it your own images from fieldwork or photographs/art works from the places in which you've been working (with full permissions from relevant institutions and individuals).
Pieces should be no more than 500 words and preferably accompanied by at least one image. If you are submitting a visual piece, we suggest 10-20 images and you are welcome to write to me directly regarding any requests/if you need more images or want to discuss ideas and and drafts.
If you are interested in submitting, please do send first drafts by September 30th, 2019 and do get in touch regarding ideas or sketches if unsure. I am really looking forward to seeing the different responses!
Kind regards,
Flora Bartlett
