We are delighted to invite you to submit your abstract for the 7th LCSS PhD
Methodology Conference

be held on 20 September 2019 in partnership with University of Greenwich
and London South Bank University. *The abstract submission deadline has
been extended to 31 August 2019.*



The conference aims to bring together PhD & Professional doctoral students
and early-career

researchers from various disciplines within the Social Sciences and
Humanities in order to share their research experiences. This year the
conference will primarily address and consider methodological, empirical
and ethical issues relevant to the Social Sciences and Humanities. Its main
focus will be the impact of Big Data on methodological choices. Against
such considerations, the conference will consider issues such as
formulating a research question, various aspects of research

design and important ethical issues facing researchers.

The conference will give PhD students and early-career researchers an
opportunity to debate and reflect on their methodological choices in order
to consider alternative approaches, methods, tools and resources. It will
also be a venue where possible challenges facing researchers will be
supportively discussed.



Within the identified domains, the conference will address the following
topics, but will not be limited to them:



● The impact of Big Data on methodological choices, formulation of research
questions

and research design.

● Ethics and ethical issues faced while conducting research.

● Key challenges in identifying the type of research methodology.

● Research philosophy and adopting different ontological and epistemological

positions.

● The advantages and disadvantages of using mixed methods and methodologies.

● The selection of appropriate methods, techniques and tools for data
collection.

● Understanding the GDPR and associated legal difficulties.

● The use of technology and innovative approaches.

Abstract should be no more than 500 words, outlining your study and the
methodological aspect(s).
