Three Post-Doctoral Research Associate Posts for project on “Cultures of Antiracism in Latin America”
Application deadline 9 September 2019
We are looking for three enthusiastic and talented Research Associates for the new AHRC funded project “Cultures of Antiracism in Latin America.”
You will be based in the Department of Social Anthropology in the School of Social Sciences, collaborating closely with the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies and linked to the interdisciplinary Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
You will be based at the University of Manchester, carrying out three months of preparatory work in Manchester, followed by an extended period of fieldwork research in either Argentina or Colombia (about 8-9 months) or Brazil (about 6 months). The remaining time will be dedicated to analysis and writing-up in Manchester.
You will have a doctoral degree (or equivalent) in Social Anthropology or Cultural Studies, Latin American Studies or a related discipline. You will need to combine skills in cultural analysis (e.g. texts, films, art, music, etc.) and in social data collection (e.g. interviewing, participant-observation, tracing social networks of people and objects, including via social media, etc.). You will have experience of first-hand data collection (e.g. via interviews), preferably in Latin America. You will be fluent in Spanish or Portuguese, as appropriate. You will also have an excellent command of written and spoken English.
