Hi Dave
POCT is independent of any laboratory at our hospital (laboratory services are provided by a different Trust) so it is a true POCT analyser in use. However as far as the analyser goes it is a benchtop analyser and could easily be used in a lab setting if required. Regarding POCT use it does not have QC lock out so you need robust training and understanding of the importance of IQC. That is the one thing I would like if I could, Sysmex did say they were working on it but I haven't heard anything recently. Ours is linked to scns so you can view the QC remotely if required, it is also connected to Poccelerator for results transfer etc.
The Sysmex is used by a small group of CSA and nursing staff. They are responsible for everything (maintenance-minimal, reagent changing and running IQC). It is based in our ambulatory unit next to A&E. It is overseen by myself and when introduced evaluated against the laboratory analysers.
Kind Regards
Belinda

Hi Belinda
Thanks for the reply. You mention you have the larger Sysmex analyser XN450 too. Is your point of care suite ran by POCT/lab staff or is it run solely by the Dr's/nurses on the ward?
Same question as to Charlene is this a true point of care analyser or more of a 'bench top analyser' and if it is, is it subjected to UKAS 15189 accreditation under an extension to scope from the main laboratory?
Thanks
Dave
