This has been going on for a while.
ScienceDirect recently introduced a new security system that is affecting this.
I had quite a lengthy exchange of e-mails and screenshots before eventually settling on the following proxy to use in my EBSCO link resolver:

Hi Stuart,
Is it possible that your IT department has recently made a change to the Single-Sign-On? It might not be releasing the attributes ScienceDirect needs to enable personalisation, e.g. the eduPersonTargetedID (info here: https://www.ukfederation.org.uk/content/Services/2006-04-05-sciencedirect )
Many thanks,
Anna

Subject: [lis-e-resources] ScienceDirect and Single Sign-On
Hello,
Here at Birmingham City University we have recently noticed an issue with access to eJournals on ScienceDirect through Single Sign-On.
Both on and off campus, through our discovery tool and A-Z of eJournals, despite having logged in through the University's single sign-on our library users are not automatically logged in to their ScienceDirect accounts. They are having to follow the sign in via your institution through OpenAthens to achieve personalisation.
Off campus this means that they are hitting a paywall (On campus access to online content is authenticated by IP address recognition).
We have raised cases with both ScienceDirect and OpenAthens.
Has or is anyone else experiencing similar problems?
Many thanks in anticipation of any responses.
Kind regards, Stuart
