Dear Cody,
have you tried doing this with coarsened data? What is the pixel size?
This will speed up the particle sorting considerably (e.g. with 2, 3 or 4 times binned data), and then refine sub-populations with finer sampling.
Best,
Bruno

Subject: [ccpem] Particle Sorting in Relion 3.0.5
Hello,
I am attempting to do a particle sorting job in Relion 3.0.5 on roughly 40k particles. This particle sorting is after a template based autopicking, and subsequent extraction, following my initial 2D classification. My problem with the particle sorting is that my job is forever stuck calculating the time needed to perform job (I have left this job running for a max of 13 hours). For example, I am met with the following text: "Calculating sorting features for all input particles... 000/??? sec ~~(,_,"> [oo].
Am I attempting to sort too many particles or is it something else such as a hardware issue or etc.?
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Cody Brazel
