On behalf of Taylor Clement about "a conference presentation" at "RSA in
Chicago in 2017":
"Kenneth Borris (McGill), 'The Integral Pictorialism of Spenser's
Shepheardes Calender' RSA Chicago 2017.
Borris spoke about the woodcut of the Maye eclogue and the backward crest
in the center of the cut (as well as other parts of the image). He argued
that the Maye eclogue iconography was quite subversive, but there may be
others who have argued this as well."

Subject: woodcuts in Calender
Could anybody tell me who it was who gave a brilliant paper (I think in
Austin, Texas at a conference two years ago) on the woodcuts of Aprill and
Maye, and how subversive the latter is ? How do I cite him? Is it
published? What was the paper called?
Thanks for any help: I have over-tidied my files, always a dire mistake.
Penny
