Hi Janet,
If you're using Abbyy to OCR your scans and saving them with the text layer under the image they will probably reflow already. You can test this by opening a pdf saved from Abbyy in a desktop pdf reader such as Adobe Acrobat (reflow doesn't work when viewing in a web browser). Press Ctrl + 4 to turn reflow on and off.
This toggles between showing the image of the page as scanned and the text layer produced by the OCR processing. When the text layer is showing it will behave in the same way as text as most websites does - reflowing automatically to fit the size of the window. It is also much easier to zoom in and still read the document.
Hope that helps!
Caroline

Hi all,
We would be very grateful if anyone who uses Abby FineReader to reflow content, would be able to share exactly what that process involves?
We have FineReader and use it to OCR our scans (a fairly automated process), but have never used it to make any other adjustments...
Best wishes,
Janet

Hi all,
We currently run all our scans through Abbyy, whether they're done in-house, uploaded by another institution, or ordered through eHess.
As they come from the British Library the scans are OCR'd, but don't reflow - even ones from digital sources. We don't make them fully accessible or manually check the OCR'd text for accuracy, but we've found it doesn't take very long to make minor improvements to the BL scans and then re-upload them to the DCS.
I'm starting to do random quality checks on older scans as and when I have time.
Best wishes,
Caroline
