I am working with a grass roots African American group trying to get public housing repaired and it works to assist the residents. The Dallas city government has been less than helpful. I am helping this group in a material way with its efforts, but also I am doing support as a cultural geographer. For example, there was an attempt to deny ownership and control and I did the research showing that the city of Dallas does ultimately control these properties and verified the histoy of the properties.
This public housing isn't visible to the general public. It is located near the southern most part of Dallas. Even though these places have developed their own names and traditions in naming these spaces, it remains invisible to the general public.
So our goal is to make these places visible. One thought is to take photos with our smart phones or some other camera and put it into some system where people can walk through this public housing and see the exteriors. They can imagine this place and then develop a concern.
I don't think we need Google maps level software, just something where maybe you can step through. We could just walk through and do a video, but I think there is more feeling of place if you can walk through it and make choices of your direction.
If someone could suggest software to do this, I would appreciate it.
