The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a Research
Fellow in Machine Learning to join our Green Chemicals Beacon of
Excellence. You will be a motivated, organised and enthusiastic
individual, with an interest in applying fundamental science to the
benefit of humankind.
Machine Learning is of increasing importance in metabolic engineering
with the goal to enable sustainable biotechnological production of our
future chemicals. This role is integrated into a number of collaborative
and interdisciplinary sustainable processing projects, viz. (1) an
aromatics platform, (2) an aldehyde platform and (3) a terpenoid
platform; aligned with the Green Chemicals Beacon research activity
portfolio:
To develop and apply transferable machine learning strategies and
automated workflows, informing metabolic engineering strategies.
To develop machine learning methods, enabling the optimisation of
microbial cell factories.
The person appointed will join the School of Veterinary Medicine and
Science, who have an extensive track record in and expertise in machine
learning. The person appointed will have demonstrable skills in research
in machine learning; alongside experience in the application of
exploratory data analysis enabling metabolic engineering. Demonstrable
skills in machine learning tool development and programming are
essential, alongside expert knowledge in bioinformatics, biochemistry,
biochemical pathways and cellular metabolism. The person appointed will
be expected to plan, conduct and analyse research in this area and will
be responsible for writing up work for publication and presentation at
scientific meetings.
This position is supported under the Green Chemicals Beacon of
Excellence, part of a landmark investment by the University of
Nottingham aimed at increasing collaboration, strengthening networks and
partnerships, attracting diverse funding, and raising the reputation of
our world-changing research. The Green Chemicals Beacon addresses the
challenge of securing the low carbon bio-economy of the future. We are
spearheading the transformation of energy-intensive economies into
low-carbon societies. We will pioneer in this multi-disciplinary field,
integrating our world-leading expertise in metabolic engineering,
process development and sustainable chemistry. Together with our
extraordinary track-record of industrial collaboration, we are creating
a cutting-edge sustainable processing platform that will unleash
economic potential for our collaborators. Facing up to global
challenges, our research will have transformational impacts on
agriculture, industry and health.
This full time post is offered on a fixed term contract until 30 June
2022. Job share arrangements may be considered.
