University of Brighton and The Victoria and Albert Museum
AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership Studentship Award
Applications are invited for a funded studentship on the history and current state of the Korean craft and design collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in Britain.
Project title: Collecting and displaying Korean contemporary craft and design at the V & A, 1919 to 2019
Supervisory Team: Dr Yunah Lee, Dr Rosalie Kim, Dr Claire Wintle, and Divia Patel
This AHRC-funded studentship is a collaboration between the Victoria and Albert Museum and the University of Brighton. The project will investigate the history and current state of the prominent holding of Korean craft and design at the Victoria and Albert Museum in Britain. This studentship proposes to unravel the Museum’s Korean collection history from 1919 to 2019, considering it in relation to the institution’s wider collecting practice and Korea’s cultural diplomacy. This research will contribute towards strengthening and displaying a meaningful collection of contemporary Korean craft and design. The student will be based in the Centre for Design History and the Doctoral College at the University of Brighton and be expected to attend the research-training programme delivered by the University. The student will benefit from training within the Asian Department at the V & A.
The studentship may be studied full-time or part-time. The Studentship will ideally begin on 1 October 2019, but there may be scope for the student to start before January 2020.
For a full description of the project, see the studentship page.
