Subject: FILM SCREENING @London, Sun, Sea and Science: Trinidad after Oil

Dear Colleagues,

On 1st July 2019, 5.30-7.30pm the Centre for Integrated Caribbean Research at ILAS is hosting a film screening and discussion on 'Sun, Sea and Science: Trinidad after Oil.' The event will take place in room G12, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU.

The event is free to attend. For further details and to register please visit: https://ilas.sas.ac.uk/events/event/19697

Sun, Sea and Science - Trinidad After Oil, looks at the possibilities for Caribbean development outside the traditional areas of tourism, Carnival and primary agriculture. It looks at the work of three Trinidadian scientists in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and public health, to create new and sustainable forms of wealth and human capital.

The film is located in Trinidad & Tobago, but its message is applicable to the English-speaking Caribbean. This link (creating a platform to address common developmental issues in Trinidad and the Caribbean) is enabled by the Anthony N Sabga Caribbean Awards for Excellence, which produced and is featured in the movie.

The Caribbean Awards scheme has presented awards to 39 laureates throughout the region since 2006, and has underscored the importance of the science and entrepreneurship in economic development. Sun, Sea and Science, premiered at the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival in 2018, and has been screened throughout the region via UWItv and other platforms. www.ansacaribbeanawards.com<http://www.ansacaribbeanawards.com/>
