Dear all,
A Ph.D. and a postdoctoral position are currently available in the
Lattice Dynamics group (https://pc.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/latdyn/) in the
Physical Chemistry department of the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max
Planck Society in Berlin, Germany.
The project aims at setting up a new far-infrared microscope based on
sum-frequency generation, using the infrared free-electron laser
(http://fel.fhi-berlin.mpg.de/) at the institute. After successful
proof-of-concept (https://arxiv.org/abs/1905.12499), we will now
implement a wide-field approach to sum-frequency generation microscopy.
This new instrument will uniquely provide (surface/bulk-)vibrational
information in the mid- to far-infrared with a spatial resolution
limited only by the wavelength of the visible sum-frequency signal,
i.e., far below the infrared diffraction limit. We will use the
microscope to study various problems ranging from resonant
super-resolution imaging of low-dimensional nanophotonic structures to
in-situ imaging of spatial heterogeneity in electrochemical systems.
The official call can be found here:

Please kindly forward this email to anyone who could potentially be
interested.
Thank you and best regards,
Alex Paarmann
