Experimental physical chemistry/chemical physics postdoctoral position available at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
A Postdoctoral position with Musahid Ahmed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA, USA is available to develop and utilize experimental techniques to explore chemical transformations in liquids and at interfaces. The prime direction is to understand nucleation and crystallization from solutions where non-equilibrium pathways for molecular growth may exist and may include multi-ion complexes, clusters, crystalline or amorphous nanoparticles and monomer rich liquid drops. Tools being utilized and/or developed in this program include velocity map imaging nanoparticle soft X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (https://aip.scitation.org/doi/pdf/10.1063/1.4982822, https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/cphc.201700197) , broadband IR laser spectroscopy, terahertz time domain spectroscopy coupled to mass spectrometry and microfluidics. The work also benefits from deep collaborations with theoretical chemists. (https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/acs.jpclett.9b00494)
Qualified candidates will hold a recent (or in the process of obtaining) PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field and will have a strong experimental and instrumental background. Experience with, but not limited to, application, modification and construction of instrumentation related to laser spectroscopy and/or coupling of lasers to mass spectrometry are a prerequisite for consideration as is the ability to collect, interpret and analyze complicated data. An interest in developing multimodal spectroscopic probes, and coupling hardware to software are desired. The position is available immediately, with funding renewable annually, depending on performance, for up to three years.
Interested candidates should submit their CV, names of potential referees, and a cover letter addressing their research background and interests to
