Holly, I do not doubt for one minute your personal commitment and sincerity in all this, but I know RELX well enough (I worked for the company for a while) to wonder whether top management are spending time and money on the new Center primarily to improve the company's reputation with academics. Forgive my cynicism, but I need some persuading that this is NOT the company's main motivation.
To be clear - I'm not saying that any results the Center produces are automatically suspect.

Subject: Re: New International Center for the Study of Research Launches
Charles,
Let me share with you our goal for the way in which we aim to work, which reflects a range of considerations. In support of the responsible use of metrics, ICSR will work with the research community to review and develop the use of qualitative and quantitative metrics for research evaluation to create a more transparent and robust approach to research assessment and to contribute to the growth of rigorous research evaluation practices.
Toward those goals, we started by reaching out to a small group of experts to serve as the Center’s advisory board. The advisory board members represent various organization types, institutions, and groups from across the research community because we genuinely want ICSR efforts and activities to be informed by a diverse range of stakeholders. As projects are developed, the advisory board will offer their expertise and insight about which additional stakeholder groups from the research community should be engaged as well.
We are just at the beginning now, with much more to come. I hope you’ll to sign up on the website to receive email updates about the Center.
Regards,
Holly
