Zeitgeist - How Ideas Travel
A Panel Discussion with Maike Oergel, Astrid Köhler and Maximiliaan van Woudenberg
Zeitgeist - How Ideas Travel (De Gruyter, 2019) is a contribution to the understanding of the dynamics of modern societies and the circulation of ideas. It investigates the emergence of the modern concept of zeitgeist - the notion of a pervasive contemporary coherence - around 1800 and proposes that zeitgeist, as it was discussed by contemporaries of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars in Germany and Britain, contributed to the formation of modern politics and modern societies, and captures key aspects of the social process of cultural transfer.
The book will be discussed by the author Maike Oergel (University of Nottingham) with two experts in the field, Astrid Köhler (Queen Mary University of London) and Maximiliaan van Woudenberg (Clare Hall, Cambridge).
Venue: The Gordon Room (G34), University of London, Senate House, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU.
Attendance free. Online advance booking required:
