Hi Joanne
We removed a similar device around 10 years ago in favour of rapid TAT from the laboratory for all SBR samples for our neonatal unit. We have had no complaints about this particular service we offer for NICU. I cannot offer too much in the way of current analyser use as we have not needed to locally revisit it.

I've been having some discussions with our Neonatal team about what constitutes a 'serum bilirubin' when confirming a raised Drager Transcutaneous Bilirubin measurement. Drager recommend a laboratory based method, the NICE guidelines don't specify and our Neonatal team are using a POC spectrophotometric method using a spun capillary sample. I'd be interested to know what methodology other hospitals are using to confirm in their jaundice protocols.
best wishes
