I've been having some discussions with our Neonatal team about what constitutes a 'serum bilirubin' when confirming a raised Drager Transcutaneous Bilirubin measurement. Drager recommend a laboratory based method, the NICE guidelines don't specify and our Neonatal team are using a POC spectrophotometric method using a spun capillary sample. I'd be interested to know what methodology other hospitals are using to confirm in their jaundice protocols.
best wishes
