Abstract:
This talk will examine some of the new techniques incorporated in the Highway Capacity Manual, Sixth Edition: A Guide for Multimodal Mobility Analysis (HCM6). In particular, the HCM6 includes new methodologies for 1) estimating travel time reliability metrics for urban streets, and 2) estimating passenger car equivalents for four lane freeway segments. Of particular importance is that these new methodologies are based on results from microsimulation models. The talk will introduce the concepts and underlying assumptions behind the new methodologies. The applicability of the HCM6 approach to other areas, and in particular the US Midwest, will be examined with an emphasis on empirical data. The talk will conclude with a discussion of future work.
