PhD position in high energy astrophysics, Tuebingen, Germany
The High Energy Astrophysics group of the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IAAT) at the Eberhard Karls Universitat Tuebingen, invites applications for a
*** PhD position (duration: 3 years; starting date: Oct. 1st, 2019) ***
focused on observational studies of stellar winds in massive stars and accretion processes onto compact objects (neutron stars and black holes) in high mass X-ray binaries.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Victoria Grinberg (http://astro.uni-tuebingen.de/~grinberg/) with data from X-ray satellites, such as XMM-Newton and NuSTAR, in order to understand the structured stellar wind of O/B stars and to decipher the large-scale geometry of wind accretion in high mass X-ray binaries. A master degree or an equivalent degree in astronomy, astrophysics, or physics is required by the beginning of the contract.
The position is available starting October 1st, 2019; a later starting date can be negotiated. For more information on the position and application formalities, see https://uni-tuebingen.de/de/3135
