Primary Research Group Inc. has published: Profiles of Academic Library Management of Digital Image Collections, ISBN 978-1-57440-586-6
This study looks closely at how academic and other research libraries develop, archive, manage, distribute and assess their digital image collections. It profiles the efforts of four universities – Indiana University, the University of Richmond, the Science History Institute and the University of Oregon – and also presents a summary of the history of major developments in digital image management strategy and practices in the recent past.
The report was written by Jasmine Burns, the Visual Resources Metadata Librarian at Cornell University Library, where she consults on a variety of digital projects across campus. Ms. Burns earned a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2015, a Master of Arts in Art History from Binghamton University in 2013, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from SUNY University at Albany in 2011.
For each of the institutions profiled, Burns looks at their degree of centralization of management of image resources, cooperation among various image production and consumption centers on campus, choice of and use of database applications and discovery interfaces, preservation, metadata and access issues, as well as copyright and permissions. The report also looks at the sources of digital images, born digital, print conversions and commercial sources, as well as their common uses in research, instruction, university management and promotion and much more.
