Dear HERG Members,
As you will be aware, over the past month the Research Group has held a vote on a change to the HERG Constitution. In short, the proposal suggests a change in the groups title and aims to become the Geography & Education Research Group (GeogEd).
Firstly, I am pleased to report that the vote was quorate (at least one-third of eligible voters).
The result suggests overwhelming support for the GeogEd proposal (98.1% in favour).
The outcome of this vote will now be discussed and ratified at the next AGM, which will take place in August during the RGS-IBG 2019 Annual International Conference (all HERG members are invited to attend this meeting). Following which a report will be submitted for final sign off by the RGS Research & Higher Education Committee. If these final steps go through without any delay, the GeogEd change will take place in October.
Many thanks to those who commented on the proposal during the consultation period, and then who voted over the past month. Throughout this process the HERG Committee have been mindful that we must ensure that the general memberships voice is heard, and your engagement with this process has been central to this.
One final bit of good news – we are pleased to share that Dr Jenny Hill (UWE Bristol), former HERG Chair and long-standing committee member, has been awarded this year’s Taylor & Francis Prize by the RGS for Sustained Contributions to Teaching and Learning in Geography. I am sure you will all join the committee in congratulating Jenny on this achievement.
Best wishes,
Harry (HERG Secretary) – on behalf of the HERG Committee
