Dear All
The Scottish Longitudinal Study Development and Support Unit are running our annual one day training seminars on 5th and 6th June in the School of Geography, Drummond Street.
The training seminars are free for University of Edinburgh staff and all PhD students Full details are on the SLS website https://sls.lscs.ac.uk/events/
'Introduction to the Scottish Longitudinal Study' on 5th June
The Scottish Longitudinal Study (SLS) links together routinely collected administrative data for a 5.3% representative sample of the Scottish population (about 270,000 people). It includes a wealth of information from the censuses (1991 to 2011), vital events registrations (births, deaths, marriages), weather and pollution data, and education data from 2007 onwards. The SLS with appropriate permissions can also be linked to other health data sources such as cancer registry and hospital admission data from the NHS in Scotland. The size and scope of the SLS make it an unparalleled resource for analysing a range of socio-economic, demographic and health questions, including those which are based on reasonably rare events. The longitudinal nature of the SLS is particularly valuable, it provides insights into the health and social status of the Scottish population and, how it changes over time.
'Introduction to Survival Analysis' on 6th June
This is a one-day workshop on survival analysis for time to event data suitable for those with experience of statistical analyses but new to this type of analysis. This course would be of particular interest to those considering using the Scottish Longitudinal Study to analyse time to event data. The course is intended for postgraduate students, academics and social or health researchers interested in learning how to do survival analysis in a statistical package. The course assumes some skills in statistical analysis, in particular a good knowledge of multiple regression and logistic regression would be beneficial. Additionally, a familiarity with using either SPSS, Stata or R syntax/command files is essential.
Booking is via the SLS website https://sls.lscs.ac.uk/events/
Please feel free to share this with anyone you think may be interested.
Kind Regards
