De Montfort University is currently seeking an External Examiner to help with its MLER Programme from November 2019. The appointment is normally for four years, subject to satisfactory fulfillment of responsibilities. A full induction will be provided.
Any interested individual possessing the following qualities is encouraged to submit their CV and expression of interest to the Programme Lead, Dr. Gary Keil ([log in to unmask]; +441162078742).
The MSc in Medical Leadership, Education and Research is designed to put the working medical professional at the centre of shaping their career. Currently, the programme is a practical and supportive, blended (in-class and remote learning) leadership course for practicing physicians, with future intentions to offer the programme inter-professionally. A highly dynamic and interactive framework is provided which enables participants to deepen their understanding of research and teaching methods, and to develop their own areas of interest by supporting them with real-world tools to implement improvement projects. Ultimately, it enables more effective, compassionate and patient-centred clinicians to better influence service deliveries across all public health sectors.
We are looking for an external Examiner who has:
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of UK sector (healthcare) agreed reference points for the maintenance of academic standards and assurance and enhancement of quality
• Competence and experience in the fields covered by the programme of study, or parts thereof

• Competence and experience relating to designing and operating a variety of assessment tasks appropriate to the subject and operating assessment procedures
• Sufficient standing (normally holding a position of Senior Lecturer or higher), credibility and breadth of experience within the discipline to be able to supportively influence and engage academic peers and, where appropriate, professional peers
• Familiarity with the standard to be expected of students to achieve the award that is to be assessed (MSc, PG Diploma & PG Certification)
• Fluency in English, and where programmes are delivered and assessed in languages other than English, fluency in the relevant language(s) (unless other secure arrangements are in place to ensure that External Examiners are provided with the information to make their judgments)
• Current applicable criteria set by professional, statutory or regulatory bodies
• Awareness of current developments in the design and delivery of relevant curricula
• Competence and experience relating to the enhancement of the student learning experience
