Senior Lecturer in Transient Astrophysics
Permanent full-time position
Salary: GBP 39,609 - GPB 48,677 per annum
Post reference number: ZZ005279
The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) at the University of Portsmouth invites applications for a senior lectureship in transient astrophysics.
The ICG is a world-leading research institute in cosmology and astrophysics. 96% of our research outputs were judged internationally excellent or world leading in the latest UK Research Excellence Framework 2014. We are now looking to build upon our existing research programme in extragalactic transient astrophysics, exploiting major astronomical facilities including the Dark Energy Survey, Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument, Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, and 4MOST. We have recently established a new research group in gravitational wave science and are active members of the Laser Interferometric Gravitational-wave Observatory. We encourage applications from scientists with a record of high-quality research publications related to transient astrophysics, as well as evidence of impact (innovation and/or public engagement) and external grant funding (which may include research fellowships).
We particularly encourage applications from traditionally under-represented groups in astrophysics. The ICG and the University of Portsmouth hold Athena SWAN bronze awards, demonstrating a commitment to organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality in science and create a better working environment for women and men.
The ICG consists of 15 academic staff, 16 postdoctoral researchers, more than 30 PhD students, and has an active international visitors programme. The University of Portsmouth is a member of the South-East Physics Network (SEPnet) and hosts the SCIAMA supercomputer including a new upgrade with 896 cores and 8.4 TB distributed memory.
