Apologies for the self-promotion, but apparently its required in this age of the entrepreneurial self (the irony of which is not lost on me ....)
Professorial Lecture - Stephen Sinclair, Glasgow Caledonian University, 5.30 pm, Tuesday, May 14.
"The Common Good and Real Social Innovation"
Stephen Sinclair, co-director of the Scottish Poverty and Inequality Research Unit at GCU, will deliver his inaugural Professorial Lecture on Tuesday, May 14.
The lecture will argue that widening economic inequality and political divisions pose very real threats to social cohesion and in fact to democracy. It is essential to understand the ideologies which have generated these threats, and what is required to re-moralise political and economic systems so that they truly promote the common good rather than merely aggregate good.
The lecture is not technical nor aimed at a specialist audience. It will be of interest to anyone concerned about the economic factors underlying today’s febrile and toxic political climate, and the economic and moral principles required to address these. Those attending will have an opportunity to reflect upon some of the key ideas which shape the political economy of our times and discuss the principles required for society as a whole to fare well.
