Dear All,
I saw this article and I thought it would be of interest and use to you.
https://www.pdfa.org/a-technical-and-cultural-assessment-of-the-mueller-report-pdf/
We often must deal with redactions and managing documents across formats. This article focuses on the Mueller Report to explore some of the issues associated with redactions, born digital, and PDF.
As I work both sides of the aisle, I am an American citizen so I have a vested interest in the report and I work in information management dealing with similar (albeit on a much smaller consequence) redactions and disclosures, the article caught my attention. First, on how and why the disclosure in PDF was problematic and how the DoJ worked to improve the PDF once the issue were raised.
What was particularly interesting was that they redacted the document then printed it and then scanned it back into a PDF.
The summary of why PDFs are used is also worth thinking about in this age where people want to collaborate on a document or to share documents through links and provide access to word documents.
Best,
Lawrence
