For anyone in sci-comm who books, organises, attends or plagiarises live stage shows and science festivals:
F*RTOLOGY! is TV presenter Stefan Gates' outrageous new Gastronaut science stage show for 2019, and after a spectacular first run in which absolutely no-one died (yay!) and no-one vomited live on stage (boo!), it's available for booking. It's a multi-discipinary show packed with explosions, smells, stunts, biochemistry, a surprising amount of physics, laughter, the world's loudest fart machine (probably) and at least one massive bottom. It's curriculum-driven and hits multiple learning objectives whilst still making the audience wet itself laughing. Really. The show has absolutely no innuendo in it (who needs innuendo when you're showing in detail how a sphincter works and passing faeces live on stage?), it's clean and educational and suitable for audiences from kids to adults.
The show accompanies a new book (also called Fartology) and comes in various forms and sizes depending on venue and budget. For arenas and large auditoriums (auditoria?) we have huge props, inflatables, mini-motorbikes and huge explosions. For smaller venues we have smaller kit, less devastating explosions and more tasting opportunities. We're pround to say that the Royal Society wanted it for the Summer Exhibition but were too worried about the scale of the explosions in such close proximity to The Mall. Hah.
