MESSAGE FOLLOWS:
In May 2019 the BBC will screen two documentary programmes on the role of music in helping people living with dementia.
Our Dementia Choir, co-produced by The Open University, documents the experiences of a group of people living with different types and different levels of dementia who are invited to join a choir. The choir, directed by Mark De-Lisser, meets regularly to rehearse and build repertoire before performing to a live audience. The programmes also feature research being conducted at UCL, the University of Nottingham, and Anglia Ruskin University.
Whilst there is no cure for dementia, the programmes demonstrate that music can be highly beneficial for those living with dementia and, as well as improving their quality of life, can offer them hope and a renewed sense of purpose.
Our Dementia Choir, presented by Vicky McClure, will be broadcast on BBC One at 8pm on Thursdays 2 and 9 May 2019
