Good afternoon,
I have some questions about how you manage the desk-hogging process at you institution. I am specifically interested in those institutions that clear belongings from desks and my questions are:
How long you keep belongings in storage within the Library for students to collect before you remove them permanently from the Library?
What do you do with these belongings at that point?
Do you treat them as lost property if they are not collected by a certain time?
Do you get any kick-back from students in doing this?
We have just kicked off our desk-hogging scheme and so far have some belongings that we cleared last week that have still not been collected by the owner. I’m concluding that either they don’t want them back or they don’t yet realise the items have been removed (just how long they were planning to leave them there?). Obviously we are now at the stage where we need to do something about these items taking up our very limited storage space.
I’d be grateful if you can share your post-clearing process with me.
Thanks so much in advance.
Kind regards,
Jo Wood
