(The deadline for submitting abstracts has been extended to May 1st 2019)
CFPs: Special Track: The sustainability issues of migrant labour in tourism
Convenors: Lin Lerpold, Örjan Sjöberg & Max Jerneck (Stockholm School of Economics) & Tara Duncan (Dalarna University)
This special track focuses on the tourism, hospitality and leisure industries and their contribution to social sustainability through the integration of immigrants into the labour force. We are especially interested in research that helps us understand how, where, and why the tourism, hospitality and leisure industries have been successful as part of immigrant’s integration processes. Continuing from this, we also want to understand the long-term labour market outcomes for migrants in these sectors. We are interested in understanding the relational side of labour market entry and the contextual - social, geographical, institutional - factors that serve to differentiate outcomes across individuals, groups, and locations. As part of this special track’s focus, we want to ensure contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals as well as gaining a better understanding of sustainable employment within the tourism, hospitality and leisure sectors.
We welcome papers that contribute to these discussions and propose a number of themes that may be considered for this special track (but are not limited to):
- Labour market integration in tourism
- Socioeconomic sustainability of tourism jobs for migrants
- Social capital, migrant work and tourism work
- Well-being, tourism work and migration
- Decent work and the tourism labour force
- Sustainable human resources for the tourism, hospitality and leisure industries
- Equality and tourism work
- Tourism work, migrants and the SDGS
All abstracts will be subject to double-blind review by members of the scientific committee. Acceptance of a submission will be based on: theoretical and empirical significance; methodological soundness; relevance to the theme of the conference and logical clarity. The official language of the conference is English. Abstracts should be submitted via the ATLAS website. Please go to http://www.atlas-euro.org/Default.aspx?TabID=313.
