London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) is seeking a knowledgeable Rights Officer to support its work as a regional hub for HLF project 'Unlocking Our Sound Heritage', led by the British Library.

This fixed-term (until May 2021), part-time role is based at LMA where you will lead on securing permissions for the public use of historic recordings from different London-based sound archives.

The post holder will conduct rights clearance activities for the project including researching rights ownership of selected material, locating and sending permissions requests to selected rights holders, and coordinating with curators, the IP & Licensing Department, and the project team to ensure that the rights clearance process is recorded to a high standard to ensure proper due diligence and that audit trails are in place. The aim of this post is to enable as many sound recordings as possible to be included for online publication.

Applicants will have a relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent. Demonstrable experience in rights clearance and a good understanding of copyright law as it relates to sound and audio recordings, a thorough knowledge of IPR issues and legislation and a good understanding of Data Protection and privacy issues.
