The School of Computer Science and Information Technology seeks to appoint a lecturer linked to the BA Psychology & Computing. This degree programme was introduced in September 2018 and is jointly taught by the School of Applied Psychology. It seeks to produce graduates skilled in human-centered computing and who, inter alia, would be qualified to satisfy the strong demand in industry for user interface and user experience (UI/UX) specialists. The successful applicant will be expected to teach and examine under the direction of the Head of School, undertake administrative duties and actively engage in research. The School seeks to appoint a staff member who will contribute to its research-led teaching ethos and play a key role in the School’s growth. Applicants are expected to have an interest in teaching computer science in an applied and inter-disciplinary context. Teaching duties will focus on strengthening the human-centered objectives of the programme, but will extend to relevant core computer science topics such as object-oriented programming and web development. Applicants are expected to have research expertise in the area of human-computer interfacing.
The School offers degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level and has an active research programme across a range of areas including artificial intelligence, networking, cloud computing, complex systems, human-computer interaction, security, and algorithms. Professors in the School have leadership roles within the CONFIRM Centre for smart manufacturing, CONNECT – Centre for Future Networks and Communication, Insight-Centre for Data Science & Analytics, and Lero – Irish Software Research Centre; all of which are national research centres funded by Science Foundation Ireland and industry. With 29 academic staff, 30 research staff and approximately 570 full-time student equivalents, the School is one of the largest in UCC.
