CFP Reminder
We look forward to welcoming you to Durham for a two-day conference on Humour and Satire in British Romanticism. The event is jointly organised by Durham University and Newcastle University, and it will take place at Durham University on 13-14 September 2019.
This conference seeks to provide a framework for the relatively new, but steadily growing, interest in humour within Romantic studies. Our aim is to explore the ways in which Romantic writers perceived, understood, and employed humour in their works. A reappraisal of satire is central to this aim. Therefore we intend to consider comparatively neglected satirists, like Peter Pindar, as well as contemplate satirical strands in the leading figures of British Romanticism. Special attention will be devoted to the use of humour and satire in response to the social and political events of 1819.
We invite submissions for standard 20-minute papers by 20 May 2019. Please email proposals to [log in to unmask]
