Based in the Northern Institute for Cancer Research, a position is available for a Research Assistant / Associate to join Professor Anthony Moorman and Professor Christine Harrison in the Leukaemia Research Cytogenetics Group (LRCG). The LRCG is a world leader in analysing the prognostic relevance of somatic genetic aberrations and holds data on more than 30,000 patients treated on national and international clinical trials of acute leukaemia. One of the principal aims of the Leukaemia Research Cytogenetics Group (LRCG) is to assess the clinical relevance of biomarkers in childhood and adult acute leukaemia. To this end, we have collated demographic, clinical, outcome and genetic data from 30,000 clinical trial patients over three decades.
You will design and undertake research projects to investigate the relationship between the cancer genome, the clinical phenotype and the response to therapy. You will develop statistical tools to integrate multi-level cancer genome (e.g. cytogenetics, FISH, MLPA, mutation, SNP array, gene expression profiling) with clinical data and undertake analysis of biological datasets generated, and their clinical, pathological and prognostic significance.
You will have a PhD in statistics, biostatistics or related subject (or be close to completion for appointment at Assistant level). You will also have experience in survival analysis.
You will have good oral communication skills; flexible independent working; initiative; and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
This appointment is fixed until 31st March 2021.
