Hi All
Barcode sharing is a bit of difficult one, at some point the individual has to take some kind of responsibility over their barcode. On the other hand you have people that look over during while someone is running a sample and use it after. I have even had my code being used because people memorised while I was tapping during a training session. Here is what I am currently working on, hope it works out.
As the POCT team we are aiming to make sure that we have training sessions frequently available including having more link trainers to minimise the need to share.
We also have someone on the POCT team assigned to check all the POCT emails regularly (everyday) so that barcode and training queries are resolved early and reduce the need to share.
We used to use a staff elearning number to assign barcodes but we are now ordering premade barcodes which we assign as the individual gets trained. Also hoping to issue the barcode at the point of training then email the staff member once the barcode is active and ready to use rather them having to come back to collect the barcode. Reducing the waiting time for a barcode will hopefully eliminate the need to share.
Also considering taking a laptop or tablet to the training session so that you can setup the user on AQURE (Radiometer) straight away and they can have immediate access. This may also reduce waiting time for a barcode.
Premade barcode will make it easier for the POCT team as well as they won't have to search through the staff eLearning numbers when setting up accounts.
Sometimes we have had a few queries where someone is concerned that their barcode has been stolen so what we will do is to assign them the next barcode available.
We do try having some regular user audits on the gas machines, the original purpose of this was to pick up compliance with mandatory patient data entry especially as we are preparing to connect POCT devices to Cyberlab, however we have now found that we pick up a lot of barcode sharing in the process for which we deactivate the code and email the individual.
Hope that helps
Kind regards

Subject: Password sharing of barcoded operator ID
Hi Collective brain,
I wondered what format or systems used for creating barcode numbers for the operator ID to discourage password sharing on POCT devices. I have heard of things like the person's payroll number is used in one Trust - If so I would like to hear from you also. Many thanks!
Kind regards,
