I agree with Katherine. I think midwives need a wide understanding of the health issues pertaining to reproduction and be able to show empathy to those people with issues relating to gender identification or alteration. However, I believe that the midwife's role is to be 'with woman' and once we start watering down that core focus, we do a disservice to women and infants. I see this as a feminist issue where the needs of women are being sidelined to promote the needs of a very small percentage of people. Women hold the future of the world in their wombs, at their breasts, in their arms. Today, more than ever, with the current crises faced by the world, it is important to cheish and protect them.
