Hello
On Monday 25th March, we were informed by Lexis that our new look news and international content sites were live. This is the first we had heard of any planned changes (but emails can easily be missed). On checking how these changes impacted our users, we noted that links to both news and international content from our Lexis Library instance [https://www.lexisnexis.com/uk/legal/] were being passed to new pages but both pages were giving error messages as Lexis had failed to pass our IP ranges across to the new pages. This got fixed eventually after 5 days. However, off-campus users accessing via Shibboleth can still not get to the new areas and get an "unrecognized network location" error.
The other issue is that once a user has navigated to international or news content, there seems to be no way to get back to our other Lexis Library content apart from clicking the back button which I personally find unsatisfactory.
We did have title level links to our newspaper content on Lexis in our Online Journal Portal and Library Catalogue but all the links are now broken due to these changes so we have pulled the records from our systems.
A quick Google of UK academic institutions who direct their users to news content on Lexis Library show that, like us, not everyone seems to be aware of these changes (or more likely not yet caught up with the documentation changes required).
What Lexis have done seems very short-sighted and I get the feeling academic customers and the way we get and link our users to content were not perhaps considered in the changes made.
Is the University of Brighton we alone in this frustrating experience?
