Dear Ana. To the best of my knowledge it is still only Cyprus and Malta whet FLs are compulsory from 3 years (a colonial legacy of English), plus the autonomous regions of Spain where a regional language may be introduced from 3 years (though possibly not always compulsory). I understand that the previous government in Poland did plan to make FLs compulsory from 3 years but the new government cancelled it. I believe it’s currently compulsory from 5 years now - the so-called ‘pre-school’ category in many countries. It would be great to hear if anyone has updates on compulsory policy. The private sector often starts much earlier of course! Best/ Janet
