As far as I know we don't have Minke in New Zealand, they are an South
Pacific / Antarctic species (also the same in the Northern Hemisphere) so If
it was ought here it is unlikely to have been caught here

Subject: Re: [ZOOARCH] Whale identification
All right, so I have received A LOT of answers, on- and off-list. Thanks for
the enthusiasm!
There seems to be some kind of consensus, with multiple people identifying
Minke whales.
I will check tomorrow to see if the earbones match.
I also received some questions regarding :
- the place where these skulls were collected: we don't know for sure, but
apparently they were bought in New Zealand in 1906
- the size of the specimens : 11110 is approximately 59 (heigth) x 215 x 110
cm. 11113 is 37 x 164 x 82 cm.
Please continue to contribute if you have other ideas, or if you agree with
saying these specimen are both minke whales.
